Madagascar!

Note: These shots have been scanned from slides, so they aren't as sharp as the originals. This trip was part of a larger trip to southern Africa, and we were in Madagascar 13-20 Oct 2000.

This map is from the excellent Mammals of Madagascar by Nick Garbutt, and shows how little primary vegetation remains in the country, and I added a few major city names. Mangily is in the southwest near Tulear. Ampijoroa is near Mahajanga in the northwest. Mantadia is east of Antananarivo.
